Description

The Victron Orion-Tr Smart isolated DC-DC charger is designed for dual-battery systems where a 12V alternator and starter battery need to recharge a separate 12V service bank. The isolated design separates input and output electrically, while the wide operating range helps maintain controlled charging when smart alternators, long cable runs, or voltage drop would otherwise leave the service battery undercharged.

Built-in Bluetooth provides monitoring, configuration, warnings, alarms, and firmware updates through VictronConnect. The adaptive three-stage charging algorithm uses bulk, absorption, and float charging, adjusting absorption time according to discharge depth for lead-acid batteries. Lithium charging is also supported, and the unit can alternatively be configured for a fixed output when used as a power supply. Engine shutdown detection helps prevent the starter battery from being drained once the engine stops.

A remote on/off connection allows control by switch or relay, and multiple chargers can be connected in parallel when more output is required. The charger is short-circuit protected and automatically reduces output at high temperatures. With the terminals correctly oriented, the electronics receive IP43 environmental protection, while the connection area is rated IP22.
