Description

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/60-TR is a 60A solar charge controller designed to extract as much usable energy as possible from a PV array while providing controlled battery charging. Its 150V maximum PV input capability gives system designers flexibility to wire multiple panels in series, while built-in Bluetooth allows monitoring and configuration through the VictronConnect app without adding a separate display.

Ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking continuously evaluates solar-panel voltage and current to keep the array operating near its most productive point as conditions change. This is especially valuable under broken cloud cover, partial shading, or rapidly changing light. Victron states that its fast MPPT approach can improve energy harvest by up to 30% compared with PWM controllers and by up to 10% compared with slower MPPT designs under suitable conditions.

The controller also includes a load output that can help protect a battery against excessive discharge by disconnecting supported loads when battery voltage falls to a configured level. Victron’s BatteryLife algorithm can be selected to manage that load output more intelligently when the solar array is not regularly restoring the battery to full charge. Loads with high surge requirements, particularly inverters, are generally better connected directly to the battery with their remote control handled through the load-output logic where appropriate.

VictronConnect provides access to battery voltage, solar history, charging behavior, load-output settings, configurable battery-charge algorithms, and supported day/night or lighting-control functions. That makes the controller useful both for initial commissioning and for ongoing performance checks without opening an electrical enclosure.
