Description

The Victron Buck-Boost 50A DC-DC Converter is designed to charge a 12V or 24V service battery in vehicles and mobile systems equipped with an intelligent alternator. Modern Euro 5 and Euro 6 charging systems can vary alternator output according to engine-management requirements, which means the voltage available at the service battery may be too low or inconsistent for proper charging.

The Buck-Boost converter stabilizes and conditions the charging supply so the auxiliary battery can receive appropriate charging even when the vehicle alternator does not maintain a traditional fixed output voltage. This is particularly important in boats, RVs, service vehicles, and other installations where long cable runs can introduce additional voltage drop between the engine starting system and the house or service battery.

With a 50A current rating, the converter is suited to higher-demand auxiliary charging systems that need substantially more current than a small accessory DC-DC charger can provide. Proper cable sizing, overcurrent protection, grounding, and ventilation should be planned around the expected 50A operating load.
