The No.08 is the original Opinel – the size Joseph Opinel designed in 1890 – here in the Colorama range’s red varnished hornbeam.

Its 8.5cm Sandvik 12C27M stainless blade takes a fine edge, resists corrosion and asks for no special maintenance, and the Virobloc rotating collar locks the blade both open and closed for safe working and safe carrying. Hornbeam’s pale, even grain takes the deep red beautifully, and the varnish guards against moisture. Recognised by the V&A as one of the world’s 100 best-designed objects, it remains the benchmark picnic, garden and camp knife.
