The Blue Sea Systems 7289 is an 80A C-Series triple pole toggle breaker in white, carrying the 5,000 ampere interrupt capacity that ABYC asks for in 120/240 volt 50 ampere main protection.

Pole count decides the job. A double pole breaker used as a 120 volt AC main switches hot and neutral. A triple pole like this one is used as a 240 volt AC main, switching both lines and the neutral together. On multi-pole breakers, a trip in any one pole opens all of them, so a fault on one leg does not leave the others live and give you a half-dead system that is harder to diagnose than a dead one.
