Description

The Balmar Belt Buddy with Universal Offset Adjustment Arm provides a more controlled way to set alternator belt tension on installations where the alternator mounting geometry requires a 1/2-inch offset. The kit combines Balmar’s Belt Buddy adjustment mechanism with the UAA2 universal adjustment arm, giving installers a purpose-built tensioning solution rather than relying only on prying the alternator outward while tightening mounting bolts.

Accurate belt tension is especially important on high-output alternator systems because excessive slip can reduce charging output and rapidly wear belts, while overtensioning can place unnecessary load on alternator and engine bearings. A mechanical adjustment device allows belt tension to be increased or decreased in a more deliberate and repeatable way.

The included UAA2 arm provides a 1/2-inch offset for applications where the adjustment arm must sit outboard or inboard of the alternator mounting plane. Owners who already have a suitable adjustment arm and need only the Belt Buddy mechanism can use Balmar part BBU instead.

Balmar cautions that mounting the BBU mechanism to an existing adjustment arm sacrifices some of the arm’s available travel, so installers should verify that the alternator does not require that movement before choosing the mechanism-only approach.
